2026 ECT SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL

SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL

***SUBMISSIONS CLOSED***

UPDATE: 15/01/2026
We have had over 280 scripts submitted so far, and the ECT team are busy sorting through the good and the great.  Every submission is the result of someone’s hard work, and we appreciate every person who took the time to create their word of art.  The hard part is now with us, and we will be coming up with 8 plays to delight our audiences in Opotiki. To those we select, we hope we can honour your work in the best way on stage. And to those who aren’t selected, know that it has been very difficult to choose amongst 280 scripts.  They were all good in their own way. We encourage everyone to keep writing and to keep submitting.

East Coast Theatre invites playwrights of all backgrounds to submit to our Short Play Festival. We’re looking for short, engaging plays that can be staged simply and enjoyed by audiences of all ages.

Submissions are free, writers may submit up to two plays, and selected works will be rehearsed and performed live as part of a one-day festival in May 2026.

If you’ve got a story that can be told in ten to fifteen minutes, we’d love to see it. E-mail your script to eastcoasttheatregroup@gmail.com
